Foundation Capital Promotes Rich Redelfs To General Partner
Semiconductor and Communications Industry Veteran Moves Ahead at Prominent Silicon Valley Venture Capital Firm
Menlo Park, CA, July 19, 2006 Foundation Capital, a venture capital firm committed to early stage company building, today announced that Rich Redelfs has been promoted to general partner. Redelfs brings 25 years of semiconductor and communications experience to Foundation Capital. Currently in his third year with Foundation, Redelfs joined as an executive-in-residence and was named a venture partner in June 2005. Before joining Foundation, Redelfs was president and CEO of Atheros Communications (NASDAQ: ATHR), a company he led from a small startup to the leading provider of Wi-Fi wireless semiconductors.
"At Foundation Capital, our focus on backing the best entrepreneurs has created opportunities to work with top-notch companies like Atheros, Netflix and Peribit," said Bill Elmore, general partner, Foundation Capital. "Over the last three years we've benefited greatly from Rich's extensive experience at Atheros and 3Com, and as he moves to general partner we expect Rich will find new ways to contribute to our firm's legacy. Rich's experience with building Atheros from the ground up, coupled with his broader networking, healthcare and cleantech interests will help move our firm even further into extremely promising areas of investment."
Prior to his work with Atheros, Redelfs was vice president and general manager of 3Com's Wireless and Home Connectivity Division, where he was a recognized pioneer in home networking. He spent ten years at 3Com in various sales, marketing, and general management positions including vice president of marketing and later acting general manager for the Mobile Communications Division, which he helped grow from $35-million to over $700-million in revenue. Prior to 3Com, Redelfs was chief operating officer of Polygon, a communications software start-up.
"Since joining Foundation Capital, I have been part of a team of former entrepreneurs with deep operations experience who share an affinity for helping others build successful companies," commented Redelfs. "As a general partner, I look forward to leveraging my industry experience and network to uncover and support the most promising new companies in the marketplace."
Redelfs currently serves on the boards of Dust Networks, Mobius Microsystems, Prematics and Azimuth Systems. Dust Networks is a leader in wireless sensor networking for industrial and building efficiency; Mobius Microsystems is focused on cutting-edge semiconductor clocking technology; Prematics is revolutionizing electronic prescription services; Azimuth is the Wi-Fi industry's leading provider of engineering test solutions. Redelfs was previously on the board of Atheros Communications. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSIE from Purdue.
