Paul Koontz

Paul Koontz, General Partner

Paul joined Foundation Capital in 1996, after having helped get Netscape Communications off the ground as that company's first vice president of marketing. At Foundation Capital, Paul's focus is on financial services and Internet technologies.

Paul currently serves as chairman of Financial Engines (NASDAQ: FNGN) and is also on the boards of Envestnet (NYSE: ENV), Yaolan Media (in Beijing), and eBates and formerly served on the boards of United Online (NASDAQ: UNTD) and Onyx Software (NASDAQ: ONXS). He also serves on the board of the Stanford University DAPER Fund and was head of Summit Preparatory Chapter High School, named one of 10 "Transformative High Schools" - Newsweek 2011 Survey of top high schools in the U.S.

Prior to his time at Netscape, Paul worked in a variety of senior management positions at Silicon Graphics Inc. and Hewlett-Packard.

Paul loves to spend time with his children, play the guitar and piano (poorly), and dream about the days when he could participate in sports without having to rest every few minutes. In addition to a master’s in engineering management from Stanford, Paul holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Princeton.
